A Look At Diet Fitness

Many people nowadays are very conscious about their own health and fitness.  In addition to that, these people, and many others as well, have a desire to sculpt their bodies to achieve that 'magazine-cover' look.  As a result, gyms, health spas and other fitness centers have proliferated to cater to the needs of the fitness fanatics, beginners and other aficionados.

Even on television exercise machines, weight loss products, and other paraphernalia to improve fitness have more or less gained control of the airwaves and made their way into households all across the world.  But exercise is not the only way to build that 'body beautiful'.  Achieving such a goal also entails a certain amount of responsibility regarding the foods one chooses to eat.  Being healthy and fit requires one to observe 'diet fitness'.

Diet fitness is as essential as exercise.  Diet fitness provides the essential nutrition one needs for healthy growth and to restore worn-out muscles.

Diet fitness should never be taken for granted.  With the popularity of keeping fit increasing exponentially, many different views, methods, programs and dieting strategies have been formulated by many professionals.  Most people seem to be very aware of either the high carb-low fat diets or the high fat-low carb diets and favor one or the other as the basis for the program they will follow.  So, what is the difference and which one is more effective?

First thing to know would be the fundamental differences between these two approaches.  As the name implies, high carb diets concentrate on taking in carbohydrate-rich foods while high fat diets endorse fat-rich foods.  On a very simplistic level, high carb diets focus on the storing of glycogen in the liver and muscles.  Glycogen is a glucose complex that provides large amounts of energy ready for use in anaerobic exercises.

Fats, on the other hand, are well-known for being the richest source of calories.  Fat actually contains 2.5 times more calories than carbohydrates and proteins alike.  Studies also show that it takes the body 24 calories to metabolize carbohydrates while it only takes 3 to burn down fat.  So which one is more effective?

There have been many arguments both for and against each method with many purists saying that strictly following either one can be fraught with danger.  They argue there is no real balance - and they have a point.  For me, the jury is still 'out' on all this and you should do a lot more research before considering either of these approaches without making sure the other much-needed nutrients and food groups are included.  I personally believe the more balanced approach covering many bases and not just one is ideal.

But diet fitness is not all about losing fat.  One must also consider the way in which a diet works in order to keep fat away.  Research shows that sustainable loss of weight can only be achieved on a diet which suits the individual's food preferences, lifestyle, medical profile and satiety signals - which means when you begin to feel full.

There's no doubt that many of the Diet programs out there can help you shed off excess pounds, but only a few will help you stay sexy, trim and healthy over the long term - and they'll be the ones that satisfy you the most on many different levels.  If it ends up being like hard work or is too boring then you won't be able to continue with the particular program for too long.

Other important aspects of having a workable, long term diet are moderation, balance and variation.  One must be careful not to leave out important nutrients and other important substances necessary for healthy body functioning.  Health organizations are very clear about the amounts of nutrients an individual should have in the body on a daily basis.  Many of the 'good' diet plans available will give you all this and it's these you should favor.

The real question is not which diet program will work but which one will work for you and your lifestyle.  Striving for a sexy and healthy body does not have to be a burden and diet fitness does not have to mean sticking to the same kind of food for life.  If you can excuse the pun - Diet programs are not in the 'one size fits all' category.  So, be willing to give different weight loss programs a go until you hit that sweet spot and find the one (or two) just perfect for you, your body and your life.
